Fun in Tibet
Experience Tibet

1. Service Trips for University Students: This year, we’d like University teams to help us come up with innovative ways to manage waste. CU Berkeley will be the first team to travel to Tibet in May 2014. You are welcome to join with the CU Berkeley team or form your own team. Please read more about “Ecowaste Project” and contact us if you are interested. Planned travel date: May 18th – May 31st.

2. Solar Mission: San Juan College is looking for 8-12 participants to join them for a Photovoltaic (PV) installation at a remote 600-year-old Buddhist monastery on the spectacular eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. This trip is arranged through San Juan College in partnership with Tibetan Village Project. Planned travel date: May 28th to June 11th. Learn more.

3. Eco-waste Mission: The Ecowaste Project aims to turn trash into opportunity by making eco-bricks using recyclable materials such as plastic bottles that can be used to build barns (or shelter) for animals or an eco-lodge. This pilot project is perfect for students and others who care about the environment and would like to experience Tibet’s living & breathing culture by staying with a Tibetan family for two weeks. Planned travel date: June 1st to June 15th.

4. Tibetan Village Homestay: Through our Homestay Program, you will have an opportunity to stay with a family in Tagong Village (Eastern Tibet) and do some light volunteer work such as cooking and teaching English or artwork at an orphanage. In addition, you will have the option of visiting monasteries and practicing meditation; hiking to a nomadic campsite and riding horses. For many people, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and you are invited to join as our guests. Planned travel date: June 16th to June 29th.

5. Students for Shoulder to Shoulder: For the third year, Students Shoulder to Shoulder, The International School of Global Citizenship located in Vail, Colorado, offers service trips to high school students. The mission of the organization is to inspire high school students to engage in responsible global citizenship through online study, full immersion service programs, and public presentation. Planned travel date: June 17th to July 2nd.  Learn more.

6. Journey to Surmang: This journey will take us to Kham and focus on visiting Surmang Dutsi Til, the birthplace of Chogyam Trungpa. Suggested date from August 6th to 20th but it can be customized.

7. Water Project: Dora Village has eight families and six businesses that drink water from a mountain spring. Due to the location of this spring, as well as the poor quality of the pipes and storage tank, villagers rarely have enough water.  The limited amount they do have access to is contaminated. The project is estimated to cost $7000 to build a better storage tank at the source and a water reservoir near the village. They also plan to purchase and install better quality pipes that can withhold freezing temperatures during cold winter months. Planned travel date: September 1st to 15th.
