Current Project
Yushu Earthquake Recovery: TVP has been working in Yushu since the devastating earthquake on April 14th, 2010 that that killed about 2,700 people (official Count), injured more than 10,000, and destroyed about 85 percent of the houses in Jiegu, a town of 100,000 people.

The highlights of TVP’s activities have included (1) coordinating relief effort; (2) distributing supplies such as food, water, clothing, tents, and other basic staples; and (3) supporting temporary relief workers and volunteers for first six months. Since then, TVP has been addressing concerns regarding earthquake victims’ survival during Tibet’s cold winter, and has provided 300 winter tents for 300 families. While TVP continues to fill aid gaps where possible, such as providing food, warm clothes and solar lights, we are beginning to shift our focus to helping rebuild business communities. Learn more
Enterprise Loan: The old saying "give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for life" sums up TVP’s intentions when it created its Microfinance Program. We provide culturally appropriate skills training, business management education, and small loans to responsibly assist individuals and families create successful businesses. We invite you to learn more about our Compassion in Action Campaign, which raises funds for our Microfinance Program. Click here to learn more.
Eco-tourism: Tibet is a special travel destination and tourism is one of the biggest sources of income for the region. However, people question whether or not their tourist dollars help or hurt the Tibetan way of life and the environment. We believe it all has to start with education for both members of local communities and visitors. For this reason, Tibetan Village Project created Conscious Journeys, a program that promotes responsible tourism by organizing volun-tour trips to Tibet and providing eco-tourism training for tour guides and tour operators in Tibet. In last two years, TVP worked with Columbia University to train over 80 Tibetans and created several sets of tourism education materials. Learn more
